Photon Counting Module

Our actively quenched single-photon avalanche photo diode (SPAD) is in active development.

This is based on the Laser Components SAP500 APD, and features high detection efficiency, especially in NIR wavelengths, with low dark counts and afterpulsing. The 500 micron detection area enables easy alignment with optics compared to other commercial options, while an external peltier cooler keeps the dark count rate down and the cost of the unit to an absolute minimum.

Our production revision under development will radically decreases the quenching time to sub-nanosecond timescales. This should enable the maximum count rate to be substantially improved from the current 20Mcps.
